I have several hundred rare books. Have you researched how different publications will often rewrite the book.
That has become a recent passion. I had never realized that footnotes would sometimes be added to the text or some parts removed. Even recent reprints will sometimes have the language updated according to the publisher.
I have several different publications of Gibbon’s Rise and Fall. . . Some don’t include the chapters about Christianity. But each has variations!
